If you run a home business, you probably have a lot of software. I know I do. I can't even count how many products I use including Photoshop, DLGuard, Camtasia, Dreamweaver, Smart FTP and on and on and on. It's like I have stock in the software companies. Maybe you do too. Well, if you DO have a lot of software, you really need to keep it updated. Oh, I know what you're thinking. "My old version works fine so why bother?" At the top of the list is support. A lot of companies aren't going to support older versions of their product simply because of their age. Then what happens when you have a problem that you can't fix on your own? You're pretty much up the creek when the company says it's going to cost you $100 for an online support call. It probably would have been cheaper to just get your software upgraded and then, if you ran into any problems, any support would have been free. That's one reason.

Another reason you want to keep your software updated is because of the fact that you WILL run into problems. For example, just recently, PayPal made a change to their payment process that caused a bug when using DLGuard. Now, if you had an older version and didn't pay for support, you couldn't get the bug fix and you would end up with a lot of irate customers who couldn't download your product. Think it's not worth keeping current just to avoid things like that?

Finally, sometimes older software just won't be compatible with what you're doing anymore or with your new computer. I have a lot of old software programs that simply won't run on the newer operating systems. No, I'm not happy about it but that's a fact of life. As operating systems get updated, older software programs stop functioning. When this happens, you literally have no choice but to get a new program.

So as you can see, like it or not, it's important to keep up with the latest software programs. Besides, some of the newer programs have enhanced functionality that will actually make your home business easier to run and save you time. And saved time means saved money. Isn't that what you ultimately want? So do yourself a favor and keep your software up to date.
